Why ransomware changed backups
Modern ransomware looks for backups on the same network and deletes or encrypts them first. Backups that can’t be changed for a set time, through object lock, versioning or an offline copy, are what let a business recover without paying.

Keep three copies of your data, on two different kinds of storage, with one copy offsite. It’s a simple, widely used way to make sure no single failure loses everything.
How often should restores be tested?
At least a few times a year for important systems, and after any big change.
